Maria Corcobado

Artist Bio

Born in London and raised in the vibrant Spanish community of Portobello Road, Maria Corcobado credits her love of theatre to her late grandfather, who worked in provincial theatre in Badajoz. As a teenager, she joined Mountview Youth Theatre and – stepping on stage as a silver-foil-draped time lord in a haze of dry ice – instantly knew she had found her home. Inspired by her working-class acting hero Gary Oldman in Mike Leigh’s Meantime, she went on to train at RADA, where she was awarded the Lilian Baylis Award and shortlisted for the Carlton Hobbs Radio Awards.

Her career spans stage, screen, and audio. In audio, Maria has voiced for BBC Radio 3 and 4, indie video games, animation, poetry, and drama podcasts. A recent highlight was playing an asexual space demon trapped in a cat’s body in Department of Variance of Somewhere, Ohio. She is also a regular voice on Observable Radio, where she’s brought to life a femme fatale hitwoman, a sardonic vampire, and an icy alien entity.

During the pandemic, Maria rediscovered her love of voice work through Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s HitRecord, which led to a nomination for Best Newcomer at the One Voice Awards in 2022. She thrives on finding fresh angles in scripts – never the obvious read – with grounded, authentic performances that connect.

Maria has a natural RP delivery with a subtle Latin undercurrent, and a gift for voicing everything from alien tongues to tiny monsters.
