Artist Bio
Known simply as Omar, Omar Lye-Fook MBE has spent more than three decades at the forefront of British music and performance. A celebrated singer, songwriter and musician with nine acclaimed albums to his name, his distinctive voice has taken him around the world and led to collaborations with artists including Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Common, D’Angelo, Angie Stone and Estelle.
In 2012, he was awarded an MBE for services to music, recognising an extraordinary contribution to British culture.
Alongside his music career, Omar has built an impressive body of work as an actor. After training at the Identity School of Acting, he made his stage debut in Been So Long at the Young Vic before going on to write and star in the acclaimed one-man show Lovesong. Most recently, Omar strode confidently onto UK TV screens as Avery Baker in Eastenders. Of his somewhat flash, besuited character he joked: “It’s just so ‘me’ – y’know, smoking a cigar, driving a Bentley, playing piano in the pub – it wasn’t much of a stretch!”
Whether performing on stage, in front of the camera or behind the microphone, Omar has a rare ability to make every word feel lived-in. His voice carries the confidence of a seasoned performer, the musicality of an award-winning artist and the warmth of someone who has spent a lifetime connecting with audiences.
