Artist Bio
Ray Sesay had dreams of making it as a footballer. That didn’t quite go to plan, so thankfully for us, he became an actor instead. The football hasn’t disappeared completely though. He now supports what he describes as a failing football team, whose identity shall remain strictly confidential.
Born and raised in East London, Ray trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before building a career across television and theatre. His screen credits include The War Between the Land and the Sea, One Day, Cheaters and Doctor Who, with Ray also set to appear in a BBC series next year.
His theatre career has taken him across some brilliant stages too. Ray has appeared in The Merchant of Venice with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Romeo & Juliet at the Lyric Theatre Belfast, Seeds at the Pleasance Theatre and Chicken Palace at Theatre Royal Stratford East. Further credits include Book of Actions with Nouveau Riché, 13 at the Tobacco Factory, and Sons Without Fathers and Red Helicopter at the Arcola Theatre.
From Shakespeare and contemporary theatre to some of Britain’s biggest television dramas, Ray’s career has already taken him into plenty of different worlds and characters. And considering the football career didn’t work out, acting seems to have been a pretty solid Plan B.
